The Ciasna borough is located in the north-western part of the Silesian Voivodeship.
It is the northernmost borough of the Lubliniec County.
It is a country borough of an agricultural nature, consisting of 9 administrative units: Ciasna, Dzielna, Glinica, Jeżowa, Molna, Panoszów, Sieraków Śląski, Wędzina and Zborowskie.
The high degree of afforestation, a landscape park, nature reserves, a great number of ponds, brooks and streams makes the borough one of the highly attractive areas of the northern part of the Silesian Voivodeship.
Nature remains a priceless treasure of the borough with richness of birds and animals species. In the area of the borough one can meet such species as a white-tailed eagle, a black stork, a crane, a heron, a bittern, a kingfisher, as well as numerous mammals – a beaver, a marten, a bat, a roe deer, a deer.
There are many species of amphibians, including a fire-bellied toad, a tree frog, a newt and of reptiles, including a sand lizard and a viviparous lizard, a slow worm, a grass snake or a viper. The flora of the borough is equally rich, as evidenced by two nature reserves Łęg on the River Młynówka and Cisy near Sieraków. At the same time, part of the borough is located in the Landscape Park Lasy on the upper Liswarta River. In the area one can find monumental trees with a trunk circumference of more than 3 meters, mainly oaks, lindens but also beeches.
The largest monument is the famous Napoleon's Oak growing in Sieraków Śląski. This English oak is over 400 years old and has a circumference of over 6.5 meters.
The history of the Ciasna borough is inherently connected with the Wrocław-Kraków trade route, the settlements were established along that route as early as the 13th century.
Apart from agriculture, carp farming, starting in the 16th century, was a very important branch of the economy as well. At the same time, from the mid-nineteenth century, the borough region was one of the iron metallurgists leaders.
In terms of history, one of the unique buildings that the borough can boast about is a restored building of the pipe factory in Zborowskie.
The pipe factory was established in 1753 and production developed very quickly, employing 115 people at its peak. The maximum production was 7,000 pipes a day, about two million a year.
The pipe factory in Zborowskie based its production on technology from the Dutch city Gouda, popular mainly as the name of a type of cheese. Pipes were primarily exported to England and the Netherlands. Magnificently renovated, the monument of a European class arouses a great interest among ethnologists, archaeologists and tourists not only from Poland.
In Ciasna, Panoszów, Patoka, Wędzin and Sieraków Śląski there are also historic palace and park complexes. Most of them remain in private hands.
The Ciasna borough, however, is not only about nature. In recent years, the Ciasna borough has been at the forefront of investments. The road infrastructure is a subject of a constant expansion, including 146 km of municipal roads, 157 km of water supply system and 73 km of sewage system.
More green areas are being revitalized, creating spaces that are friendly to residents. A very important element of development are bicycle paths and cycle routes which, together with transfer centers, serve both residents and tourists.
Taking care of the natural environment, the borough invests in renewable energy sources. The local government also supports village council initiatives. Green areas with playgrounds and recreational centers are being built.
The borough provides care and education from the age of one. In its area there is a Toddler Club, there are kindergartens and schools. These institutions go beyond the framework of the educational program by participating not only in competitions or projects, but also putting emphasis on the development of children, from the promotion of historical values, through social campaigns, to pro-ecological issues.
The center that cares about widely understood culture is the Cultural Center in Ciasna.
There are many different sections, such as the borough Brass Band, "Copacabana" Majorettes Dance Group, GokVoice - vocal section or GokArt - art section. The Brass Band and Majorettes operating in the center are the two most numerous groups. They are successful not only in Polish but also international competitions, constantly promoting the borough.
There is a Borough Library in Ciasna with its branches in Glinica, Sieraków Śląski and Zborowskie. It serves to develop and satisfy the reading, information and educational needs of the local society.
From an early age, sport is promoted by regional football clubs playing in classes A and B. Football matches and training sessions take place on the football pitches, ‘Orlik’ sport complexes, as well as in sports halls. There is also a skate park in Ciasna. Recreation is also favored by the network of cycling paths connecting individual towns in the borough.
There are dynamic workplaces in the borough, they are famous for high-quality construction joinery, wall panels, fasteners for industry, automotive and construction, as well as for the production of machines and industrial automation devices. Anyone willing will be able to find employment opportunities.
